Updating some beliefs, keeping others fixed

Post by clairebre »

This seems like a beginner question but I cannot find an answer anywhere.
I want to fix some nodes in my BN and update beliefs on the others. I do not want to fix beliefs on the 'set' nodes at 100% probablity of one of the states. I want to fix one node at say 75% rural, 25% urban and another at 30% below poverty line, 70% above and cycle through updating beliefes (F5) to experiment with the other nodes. The nodes I want to fix influence other nodes but are not influenced by them.

Is it possible to do what I want?
Thank you, Claire

Hi Claire,

You are probably referring to "soft evidence," which we don't have in GeNIe. We do have "virtual evidence" but this does not fix the posteriors, just offers uncertain evidence for them. You can read more about "virtual evidence' in GeNIe manual. Please do think carefully about the semantics of what you want to do and whether you really want to do this. I have personally never used it and did not really feel the need for it.

I hope this helps,

Marek
