JSMILE - GPL compatibility

Post by Vin »

Hello,

I'd like to ask whether the JSMILE wrapper is compatible with GPL - that is, if I there is a way I could include this wrapper in a gpl covered program, even though that the SMILE framework itself isn't licensed under GPL.

The way I read your question, it is about legal issues, i.e., what happens when you include jSMILE code into code that is covered by the GPL license. I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that question. While we are making our programs and some source code (like jSMILE) available free of charge, all our programs and documents are copyrighted and none of our code is subject to the GPL license. To get the answer to the question what happens to the license of a GPL code that includes jSMILE, you should contact somebody familiar with the GPL license. Obviously, the fact that a user includes the jSMILE code in his/her GPL-licensed code, does not have any impact on our license. Thanks for asking this -- your question has prompted me to clarify and update our license!
Cheers,

Marek
