Re: Simplifying a learned network
I want to remove the weakest arcs. 1) How can I get a listing of the arcs and their strengths? 2) How can I remove the arcs below a given threshold? Marcos, I'm afraid there is no automatic way of removing arcs in an existing network in GeNIe. To do this, you will have to use SMILE and write a prog...

1) As for the mathematics: if I understand it correctly the equation nodes are not using continuous Bayesian networks, rather they are based on whatever mathematics fit the different situations at hand (algebra sometimes, simulations at other times etc.). Am I right? I believe that it is wrong. The...

Re: Equation Node Documentation?
I'm running version 2.0.3259.0 I'm only a casual user right now. I noticed the new Equation Node type but can't find any documentation for it's use. It appears that the Help files have not been updated. Can you point me to something? Steve, I'm afraid we have no documentation on that -- not enough ...

The reason is that VOI is calculated as the difference between the expected utility or expected monetary value of the information-gathering alternative (info) and the non-info gathering alternative (no_info). For linear value functions, which are equivalent to expected monetary value this differenc...

Re: Is such a feature planned?
thanks for your advice, but it seems that there is no pragmatic possibility to set values as evidence. Is such a functionality planned for future releases? I really need to set some values as evidence in my work. It would be great if you could implement it. Jeorg, Yes, we plan to develop this and a...

Re: RE: Value of Information
The one remaining is: does GeNIe compute VOI for nonlinear utility/value functions? Yes. Actually, I doubt this. Remember that for a nonlinear utility/value function, you cannot simply take the difference of the utilities and infer VOI. Can GeNIe compute certainty equivalents? For a utility functio...

Re: Can't load example file
thanks for your quick reply and creating the example file. Unfortunately i can't open the file in genie. I use the newest builld 2.0.3259.0. Trying to open the file genie notices that the file can't be loaded. In the console I see an error message: "Error at 15,25 while loading c:\...\MAU.xdsl...

Re: The following file causes a crash
i have a file now, in which the bug can be reproduced. Simply click until you are in subnet "3" and hit "run". It would be kind if you'd fix it. Thanks for finding the problem. Submodels have nothing to do with it, so you can just as well place all nodes on the main level. The c...

Re: Feature-Request: Expression > Arithmetic functions>
i am very happy with the genie tool, since other comparable tools are very expensive and include few functions. Although i would like to have min(x1,...,xn) and max(x1,....,nx) functions as expressions in the arithmetic functions in a MAU node, which return the smallest / largest x. I really need t...

Re: Incorrect Diagnostic Value calculation ?
I think I may be hitting a SMILE/Genie issue. In the attached zip (opening attached model and the case file) when I set "t24:found" as the pursued fault (with current posterior of 0.89), "o168: shows a diagnostic value of 0.01. Now when I set "o168" = notFound, the posterio...

Another question on the same topic. Shachter's algorithm require expectations for values nodes, right? So, I can plug those values into the Dmatrix in that's node Definition(). IIRC, Shachter's algorithm also needs expectations for chance nodes. Where should I add them? Is SMILE doing that for me? ...

Re: Extended network
Thanks for the reply Marek. I was really thinking of the example given as part of a larger network, for example we could add: C (Temporal) and the additional links: C->B C->C (order 1) (see attached file) The example is purely hypothetical, and it may be that in practice one would most likely inclu...

Re: sensitivity analysis
I tryed once and doesn't work very well. I had some problems with GeNIe and the software crashes. Moreover in the output window this message appear: "Utilities not specified. Policies cannot be evaluated" thus every time I work (e.g. introducing an evidence) and updating the network. Ther...
