Just had a first feel of QGeNIe, quite like it
It's very considerate of the designer to have those features and functions selected and configurated for this great tool. The documentation is also good, concise and informative. On my previous experience using GeNIe, I believe it will be very powerful for modelling a complex problem with limited ti...

Can't open a model in GeNIE v2.4
Hi Administrator I just installed the latest v2.4 and tried to open a model developed in v2.3 and got this error message: "Error at 71, 2 while loading XXXXX.xdsl: SetEquation failed: 'Invalid text literal: "Home".'" There is indeed some equation nodes use a chance node which has...

A small suggestion for equation node
Hi Administrator I'd like to suggest that you consider to equip the definition box of the equation node with copy and paste capability. It'll be really handy for a job with a number of equation nodes with similar types of equations, especially when equation is big. It is also conducive to documentat...

Re: Error- All potential entries are zeros for node **
Found the problem - accidentally set zero to the weight of leak of a node.

Error- All potential entries are zeros for node **
Hi Administrator
I built a network and got an error message - "All potential entries are zeros for node **" for a good majority of the nodes in it. In fact there is no update for these nodes.
What are the problems actually? Is it possibly because of too many nodes?
Regards
Charlie

Re: Intuitive noisy averager
You're right, Marek. It's my oversight not to assign an appropriate non-zero probabilities to the "low" and "none" states for the two nodes. There was also an error in Social Pressure where I accidentally assign a 1 to NfU state. I re-attached the net with these corrected. Charlie

Re: Intuitive noisy averager
Hi Marek Thanks for responding. Yes, the two nets are the same. I found noisy-adder is extremely useful in eliciting knowledge from a non-pure-technological/physical field e.g. renewable energy development where surely are technological elements and a lot of other physical presences but also, at lea...

Re: Knowledge engineering with GeNIe
Hi Marek Thank you so much for your encouraging feedback, expert advice and kind offer of mentoring. Yes I'll defensively try out BayesBox. I'll also try network discretization for applying sensitivity analysis - sounds not very straightforward. Yes it would be highly appreciated if I could have a o...

Knowledge engineering with GeNIe
I guess the majority of the forum users are using GeNIe/Smile for machine learning and wonder whether there is anyone using GeNIe for knowledge engineering like me. I'm also not sure whether it's appropriate to share bit generic experience in knowledge engineering in this forum instead of more techn...

Intuitive noisy averager
I guess many have used this but it's no harm to put it here again. Often in knowledge elicitation we need to factorize a complex problem or system down to the level we feel comfortable to assign a probability. For this purpose I found I need a highly intuitive noisy averager that intuitively links a...

Re: More info for noise adder please
I know now where I got wrong - I didn't exclude the distinguished states when calculating the average. Recalculated with the exclusion is attached (tab "Simple_correct"), which is the same as network's CPT. While the problem is solved I'm still wondering why distinguished states should be ...

Re: More info for noise adder please
Hi Marek Forgive my ignorance - I still feel confused with noisy adder's behavior. Please see attached a simple noisy-adder net and a spreadsheet version with calculations in cells colored in red. The CPTs in the net are different from those in the Excel sheet. Could you please enlighten me where I ...

Re: Virtual evidence
Thanks Marek for your patience. Surely you're right I misunderstood it as "soft evidence" in your word and the marginals should be the virtual evidence. Is there any more detailed introduction of virtual evidence that could help me gain a more thorough understanding? I was quite bewildered...

Re: Virtual evidence
Please see attached a simple net with three nodes. If I set virtual evidence to the middle node say state0=0.5, state1=0.5, state2=0, and state3=0, the actual states shown are different: state0=0.7, state1=0.3, state2=0, and state3=0 after execution.
Thanks
Charlie
